A Custom Bridge That Looks Natural

A Custom Bridge That Looks Natural

When you lose a tooth, or a couple in a row, the gap could cause embarrassment and over time, lead to issues with your oral health. To help our patients obtain a full smile again, your Independence, MO, dentist may suggest a bridge. Fortunately, we can use lifelike materials and digital imaging technology to create one that fits comfortably and looks natural!

Tooth loss is linked to misalignment, higher risks of issues like tooth decay and gum disease, and even jaw joint disorders like TMD and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding). Not to mention difficulty eating or speaking clearly for those with more severe cases of lost teeth.

When we recommend a bridge, we start by removing structure from the teeth on either side of the gap, which we refer to as abutment teeth. We then use digital imaging technology to create a digital impression, allowing us to design and create a prosthetic with greater precision and accuracy. A dental bridge will contain your new teeth, referred to as pontics, with dental crowns attached to each end. Using CAD/CAM technology, this entire process only takes one visit. After we design and create the bridge, we attach the crowns to the abutment teeth and secure the new ones firmly in place, for a fixed option with the potential to last 10 to 15 years.

We often create the prosthetic itself with materials like ceramic or zirconia, as they can be shaded and tinted to blend with the rest of your smile. These materials also have the ability to absorb daily bite forces and withstand major pressures. We want you to feel proud to smile, and enjoy teeth that look completely natural.

In one visit, we will design, create, and place your prosthetic. Afterward, routine care will be needed to keep them in place, as your abutment teeth are key to keeping your new smile whole. Continue to brush and floss daily at home, and clean the spaces between the top of your gums and the bottom of the prosthetic, where food particles could accumulate. Try to avoid habits that harm your oral health, such as consuming high amounts of sugar or using tobacco products. Finally, be sure you see us every six months so we can monitor your smile!
